Peptide Formulation

Peptide Formulation

By encapsulating peptides in bioresorbable polymer microspheres, it is possible to produce depot formulations which deliver their therapeutic payload gradually over several weeks to several months.  This provides patients with a more palatable alternative to daily injections.  Q Chip’s new manufacturing technology gives extraordinary control over the release characteristics of its microsphere depot formulations, to minimize initial dose-dumping, whilst maximising drug-loading and stability & reproducibility of release.

This technology allows the serial manufacture of microspheres, hence we are able to control the size, porosity and formation kinetics for every microsphere, and thereby reproducibly affect the release kinetics of the peptide encapsulated.  The droplet generation method is compatible with high concentration polymer solutions (up to 40% w/v), which uniquely allows us to markedly increase peptide loading to >15% w/w, with only a minimal increase in burst release.

Our new device is capable of producing microspheres (between 40-70µm in diameter) from a range of polylactides and polylactide-co-glycolides, enabling sustained release from two weeks to >3 months.  We are actively seeking novel or generic peptide candidates to further exemplify our technology.
