Ken Powell
Executive Chairman
As well as Q Chip’s Executive Chairman, Ken is head of Arrow Therapeutics Ltd. With over 30 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry and academia, his previous posts have included Head of Antiviral Research and Head of Biology at the Wellcome Foundation.
He was Professor of Virology and Cell Biology at the Wolfson Institute for Biomedical Research (UCL) where he was also deputy director from 1996 to 2002. During his time at WIBR Ken set up Inpharmatica (now part of Galapagos NV) and Ark Therapeutics (now LSE listed) in addition to Arrow Therapeutics which he founded with five colleagues in 1998. Powell is well known for attracting venture capital investment; his portfolio of backers have included high calibre groups from the US, Europe and Japan.
Arrow now has nearly 60 employees carrying out novel antiviral drug discovery and development in central London. Arrow has multiple products in clinical and preclinical development and was recently sold to Astra-Zeneca PLC for $150 million.
Richard
Brook OBE
Non-executive Director
Richard joined the Board as Chairman in May 2004. He is a founder and director of E-Synergy and Chairman of E-Synergy Early Growth Fund Ltd. He is also President of the Sira Group of Companies, President AIRTO and a director of the National Physical Laboratory. His career spans over 30 years in research and development in sensors, measurement, instrumentation and related technologies.
Richard Harrison
Non-executive Director
Richard Harrison spent 15 years working with GlaxoWellcome, taking responsibility for global manufacturing and supply chain functions. He brings commercial and technical expertise to the Board of Q Chip through his extensive executive experience of the pharmaceutical industry. Latterly, Richard was Group Engineering Director at GlaxoWellcome. Since then he has worked with a range of VCs, providing advice on investments in the fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals sectors, and with company start ups, providing strategic business advice and operational assistance.
Cédriane de Boucaud
Non-executive Director
Cédriane joined the Q Chip Board of Directors in January 2008. She has over 14 years experience in venture capital and corporate finance and has been involved in funding and growth for more than 20 technology companies. She has special expertise in strategy and finance.
Cédriane is an Investment Executive at E-Synergy and is part of the core team which manages the Sustainable Technology Fund. Cédriane has been actively involved with Q Chip since its spin out from Cardiff University in 2004.
Prior to E-Synergy, Cédriane worked with Katalyst, a US venture fund as interim management for various early stage technology companies. Her roles included business and capital strategy formulation. She was previously with Arthur Andersen and PriceWaterhouseCoopers as Manager in the Corporate Finance Services Group.
Cédriane has a Masters' and Bachelors' Degree in Economics from Cornell University in the US.
Dominic Griffiths
Non-executive Director
Dr. Dominic Griffiths joined Biofusion in September 2007 and is responsible for the Life Sciences portfolio of Fusion Cardiff. Dominic's responsibilities in Cardiff span the entire spin-out value chain: identifying and evaluating new opportunities, securing investment in the company, providing management support and assisting portfolio companies seek further investment or exit. Prior to joining Biofusion Dominic was Director of Business Development for the AIM-listed company Phoqus Pharmaceuticals and has a background in management consulting, having previously worked for Gemini Consulting (now CapGemini) and Pharmaventures. Dominic has a PhD in Biochemistry.
